Who Is Mark Zuckerberg?

Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of the social network Facebook, walked out of his dorm room at Harvard University. Zuckerberg dropped out of school after his sophomore year to focus on a site that has grown to more than two billion people and has been made a billionaire many times over. The birth of Facebook was featured in the 2010 film "the Social Network".

Early Life

Zuckerberg was born on May 14, 1984, in White Plains, New York, to a comfortable, well-educated family. He grew up in the nearby village of Dobbs Ferry.

Zuckerberg's father, Edward Zuckerberg, ran a dental practice adjacent to the family's home. His mother, Karen, worked as a psychiatrist before the couple's four children, Mark, Randy, Donna and Ariel, were born.

Zuckerberg developed an interest in computers at an early age, when he was about 12 years old, he used Atari BASIC to create messaging apps, which he called "Zucknet"." His father used the program in his dental office so that his secretary would inform him about a new patient, rather than shouting across the room. The family also used Zucknet to communicate inside the house.

Together with his friends, he also created computer games just for fun. "I had a lot of artist friends, "he said." They came and drew, and I built a game out of it."

Mark Zuckerberg's education

To keep abreast of Zuckerberg's growing interest in computers, his parents hired a private computer teacher, David Newman, who came to their home once a week. Newman later told reporters that it was hard to beat a genius who began taking graduate courses at nearby Mercy College around the same time.

Zuckerberg later attended Phillips Exeter Academy, an exclusive prep school in New Hampshire. He showed a talent in fencing, becoming the captain of the school football team. He also made his mark in literature, receiving a diploma in classics.

But Zuckerberg continues to be involved in computers, and continued to work on developing new programs. Still in high school, and has an early version of the Pandora music software, which is Synapse.

Several companies, including AOL and Microsoft, are interested in buying some software, as well as hiring a teenager before graduation. He declined the offer.

Mark Zuckerberg's College Experience

After graduating from Exeter in 2002, Zuckerberg enrolled at Harvard University. After his sophomore year, Zuckerberg dropped out of college to devote himself to his new company, Facebook, full-time.

For his sophomore year at the institute, ivy League earned a reputation as an on-campus software developer. It was during this time that he created a program called, which helped students choose their classes based on other users ' choice of courses.

He also invented Facemash, which compared photos of two students on campus and allowed users to vote on which one was more attractive. It became more and more popular, but was later shut down by the school administration after it was deemed inappropriate.

Building on the hype of his previous projects, three of his ?????????? - Divya Narendra, and the twins Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss-asked him to work on the concept of a social network, which they called the Harvard Connection. This page is intended for posting information about Harvard student media to create a dating site for the Harvard elite.

Zuckerberg agreed to help with the project, but soon stopped working on his own social network Facebook.

Zuckerberg and his friends Dustin Moskowitz, Chris Hughes, and Eduardo Saverin created Facebook, a service that allowed users to create their own profiles, upload photos, and chat with each other. The group maintained the site from the south side.
