Musk has long been convinced that in order to survive, humans must be a multi-planetary species. However, he wasn't happy with the high shoulder value. In 2002, he founded Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX), a company dedicated to more affordable rockets. The first two rockets are the Falcon 1, first launched in 2006, and the larger Falcon 9 (first launched in 2010), which was designed to reduce the cost much less than in competing lasers. The third rocket, first launched in 2018, is the Falcon Heavy, designed to put 117,000 pounds (53,000 kg) into orbit, almost twice as much as its closest competitor, Boeing's Delta IV Heavy, which is a third of the cost. SpaceX has announced that it is the successor to the Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy, the Super Heavy-Starship system. The superheavy first stage will be able to lift up to 100,000 kg (220,000 lb) into low Earth orbit. Ship, a spacecraft designed to provide high-speed transportation between cities around the world, as well as to build bases on the Moon and Mars. SpaceX has also developed the Dragon spacecraft, which delivers cargo to the International Space Station (ISS). The Dragon can have up to seven astronauts, and it was a mission with astronauts Doug Hurley and Robert Behnken to the space station by 2020. Musk has been trying to get the space flight agency to develop a fully reusable rocket that can ascend and return to its takeoff trajectory. Since 2012, the SpaceX Grasshopper rocket has made a number of short-haul flights to test the technology. In addition to the CEO of SpaceX, Musk was also the main design engineer for the Falcon, Dragon and Grasshopper rockets.
